I really enjoyed Skyping with Kelly Hines that day in class! She had so many great ideas for us to hear as future teachers! She is the teacher I have been commenting on for COMMENTS FOR TEACHERS, I really enjoy her posts!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great skype session. I didn't even think about how you could use a smart board for athletic purposes. Mrs. Hines also presented some great answers for questions about teachers wanting to implement technology into the classroom. I liked her idea of having her students create an anti bullying public service announcement via podcasting. I also liked how she hosted a technology night for parents and brought up ways for all students to participate in technology. These were only a few of the many ideas she spoke about in her presentation.
ReplyDeleteI got a lot of really good information out of this session.
just wondering... do you ever skype in to anyone else dr. strange?

The skype session with Mrs. Kelly Hines was really great. I have been following her on twitter and she always has really great post about what all she is doing in her classroom. Her explanation of the way she uses technology is exactly the way I think. She doesn't pick a lesson based on the technology she picks a lesson and then she finds a way to be able to use technology. She really has a lot of great ideas about using podcasting, blogging, using the smart board. I wish I would have had her when I was in the 4th grade.
ReplyDeleteAnother great Skype session. Mrs. Hines has been teaching for 11 years and she also presents professional development. I also like how she uses technology. She does not think that technology should be used first. She plans technology according to the objectives and lessons she has. I thought it was interesting when she explained that her fourth graders use podcasts to review and then post their podcasts for other students to use as a review for an assessment. What a great tool. She also has come across different school administrators in which some support her technology ideas and some are questionable. I feel as though our school system questions technology as almost all blogging sites and many other sites are blocked. Mrs. Hines also explained how she finds the other classrooms around the world to Skype with. We can all use this information and keep it for our own use in the classroom. She explained how important it is to develop your own personal learning network. I am starting to now truly understand the importance of PLN's. One last interesting point I enjoyed listening to was that Mrs. Hines stated that there is a website you can go to to request things for certain lessons in your classtroom. People all over the world donate things to teachers. They are then theirs to keep. I never knew that! Mrs. Hines also holds a parent night at the beginning of each school year to inform parents of the year to come when it comes to technology. What a great way to help parents understand and keep them informed. Great Skype session Dr. Strange.
ReplyDeleteI heard many great ideas in Mrs. Hines skype. I believe it is great when teachers share ideas and ways to utilize new technologies. Very impressive ideas and concepts.
ReplyDeleteI was really impressed at the skype boardcast of Ms. Hines. I wish I oould witnessed the casting in person. I love how technology is being use in the classroom and I hope when I become a teacher I will do the same.
ReplyDeleteWhen watching the Skype session with Mrs. Hines, I never had much knowledge in smartboarding, but after watching I've learned new ideas that I can later try in my own class later. I can't wait to find her on Twitter and see what else she has to say.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Hines had some GREAT ideas for using technology in the classroom! What I really like most about her is that she does not feel like technology NEEDS to be used first in the classroom. Great Skype!
ReplyDeleteMany great ideas! More teachers should use technology like this! Thank you for posting this so the rest of the classes can watch and learn!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas about technology in the classroom! Awesome skype session
ReplyDeleteI am really excited about the smartboards! Also, the PLNs seem like a great way to "borrow" ideas from other teachers.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed listening to Mrs. Hines. I am following her for Comments for Teachers, and I think she has some great ideas. I like that she said that students are now consumers and responders. I think she is exactly right. Kids today like to make things and use what they learn. I also loved that her husband uses technology for sports. I plan to coach soccer, and I am excited to use a smart board and other technology to teach my students and players.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching the video of Kelly Hines. She really put everything that we are learning and using in our edm class in perspective. She really gave us some great ideas on how to include technology in our classrooms. Whether its dealing with the parents, staff, or just how to approach it in general. We must keep in mind learning first. I loved that comment, and her advice to start with one project a year took some of the anxiety out of trying to be a technology literate teacher. great!
ReplyDeleteAnother great session, hopefully my class will have an opportunity to sit in on one of these. I love hearing what these experienced educators have to say.
ReplyDeleteI learned a few things about the smartboard myself. I have had a couple of classes where the classroom had a smart board. But the only thing it was ever used for is the same thing a regular old projector is used for, powerpoint slides.
ReplyDeleteYet another informative piece from Ms. Hines. She incorporates many wonderful ideas into her work, including ideas on how to incorporate technology into one's PLN, and how to use it to better teach each lesson. Her ideas about revolving technology around the lesson, and not the lesson around technology made a lot of sense to me, and I wish more teachers would think of the goals and objectives first.
ReplyDeleteI like this skype session. It seems really cool. I could not understand all of it but I like how she said that it is not about technology first. It is about learning what is important. Technology is just a way to help with that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am so glad I have access to this teacher! I'm sure I will have lots of questions in the future :) haha
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this skype session. I like that Mrs. Hines uses technology along with her lessons and objectives but does not completely rely on it for everything. This provides some flexibility. In most of my blog posts, I have mentioned how technology has its issues, and I'm happy to hear from a teacher who doesn't SOLELY rely on it.
ReplyDeleteI great skype session. I love Mrs. Hines. Shes done an amazing job incorporating technology into her lessons and into the classrooms. I do agree with Jessica Eaton, about not relying soley on technology.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this video! She has so many great ideas about technology in the classroom. It was nice to have the opportunity to hear her perspective!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Hines had a lot of good information for how to use technology in the classroom. I enjoyed it. =)
ReplyDeleteI thought she had a lot of great ideas and was an awesome video. She was able to use technology in her classroom on her own. I liked this video a lot.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that we had the privilege to skype Mrs. Hines! I cannot wait to learn more about using smartboards! I love her interaction with parents! I think that is vital! I am going to add her to my PLN. I am thankful she took the time to speak with us.
ReplyDeleteThat was a good skype session. I really enjoyed listening to her. She gives me ideas for what I can do when I get my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed listening to Mrs. Hines Skype session. She is a very innovative teacher. I too like that she focuses on her objectives first and uses technology as tool to reach them. She has many great ideas and will be an awesome addition to my PLN!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ms. Hines that you don't base your lesson plans around the technology, you make your activities based on the objectives being covered. This was a great Skype session!
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool! Glad one of the classes got to talk to Ms. Kelly about technology. Listening to her talk about how she uses it in her classroom makes it more real to me as a student.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Mrs. Hines's skype. She made some interesting points about technology. I enjoyed her ideas very much. I am excited to get to use technology in my classroom.Great skype!
ReplyDeleteI really liked her use of technology! She made a lot of great points. I like the way she just focuses on objectives in lesson plans and then includes technology in her activities! Awesome Skype session.

ReplyDeleteI heard a lot of great ideas in Mrs. Hines skype that I would like to use someday. I think it is necessary for teacher's to share their ideas and "network" with other teachers. This way we can all grow to be better teachers and innovate new ideas into our teaching.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had been able to see this Skype session in person. I love her enthusiasm for teaching and for technology. Mrs. Hines's blog is also full of useful information. Such a good writer. Thanks for introducing us to so many fascinating teachers, Dr. S.
