From time to time I find some important material that I want to include in the class. As I have explained before, I call these Additional Assignments. It also helps me understand who is reading the blog on a regular basis.
Your Additional Assignment #2 is to watch How Kids Teach Themselves. Your post responding to this assignment is due Wednesday October 13 at midnight

1. What do you think? If learners are motivated, can they teach themselves?

11. What role does a teacher (either answer generally or use a specific example) play in your learning?
12. What is the most important idea, question or emotional response you take away with you as a result of watching this video?
13. What other questions or issues are raised by this video that should be considered and discussed by aspiring teachers?

The Sugata Mitra video really makes me wonder if there really is a need for teachers as we know them. In the past we were the ones responsible for imparting knowledge and it sure doesn't seem like that role is necessary any more.
ReplyDeleteCan you see a time when the professional teacher is first a professional in a specific field first and a resource for interested students second? The role of the educator in the future may be one who simply gathers and vets information and finds people in the field with specific talents to interact with the students.
