This video makes me think of my own almost 2 year old. From the time I got my iPhone which was about 6 moths ago she instantly figured out how to slide it and make it come on and how to go to the pictures and find pictures of herself. I think that children these days learn at such a young age about technology that not using it to teach is a waste!
ReplyDeleteWow! This video tells it all. I remember when cell phones were really big, large, and you could only use them in the car. I didn't receive a cell phone until I was 18 years old. Kids these days are receiving cell phones from their parents at early ages. My students know more about my own iPhone than I do. How times have changed.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite amazing! I know the young boy comprehends what he is doing, but I wonder if he could do the same with a regular phone that isn't touch screen. Just a thought. It is still unbelievable the a 1 year old who can barely talk, can operate a cell phone.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to win any friends by making this post but I have very strong feelings that go against the nature of this class and what we as educators are trying to do.
ReplyDeleteI could cite a million studies that show over stimulating children, especially toddlers and babies, leads to a lack of attention span. We are all farmiliar with ADD and it being over diagnosed in children and I believe that television/gaming/fast paced devices should not be put in front of children under two years of age.
In France, the government has banned programs and adverts from targetting children under three years of age. Moderation of television and devices may be fine but at fourteen months I was more impressed with the fact that the young man spoke so well.
I also noticed that the dad was ready to stop the video when your son paused for a few seconds around 1.20 minutes. Please forgive me I am not condoning what you are doing as a parent, I just disagree and that is what blogging is...our opinions. Many people are unwilling to embrace technology because of people on facebook in class, but this just puts fuel on their fire.
WOW!!!!! This video is very shocking. It reminds me of my three year old cousin. He is so smart that it is scary. He talks in complete sentences, knows things he should not know, and is able to tell you where his mother work and where his grandma stays. Kids in today's society is introduced to so man things from technology to street life. You name it. It is the parent who has control over all of these different things. You just have to be prepared for anything. Children are just learning at a faster rate than the children from the older years.
ReplyDeleteThat little boy is amazing. I think that kids are learning faster, because they are exposed to a lot more then most of us were. Dr. Strange is right, we have to be prepared for what are future students are going to need and expect from us.
ReplyDeleteI actually laughed at this video because I wonder if that boy really understood everything that he was doing. Having a touch screen really is a great tool and in my opinion is a lot easier to handle.
ReplyDeleteWow. That is amazing that a toddler knows more about an iPhone than most adults. I'll admit, it took a while for me to get used to my touchscreen phone, and I probably don't know everything I can do with it. Just imagine what this little boy - and others like him! - will be able to do in just a couple more short years...
